Google Analytics For Your Profile

Mon Jan 27, 2014, 4:40 PM
Beta Testers can now use Google Analytics on their profile! Using Google Analytics, members now have access to comprehensive statistics about their deviantART profile, artwork, Journals, galleries, and collections.

Here's just a small sample of some of the stats you can see with this:
  • Real-time traffic to your content
  • Visitor stats (new visitors, returning visitors, time spent on pages, number of pages viewed, bounce rates.)
  • Traffic charts
  • Traffic demographics
  • See where your visitors are coming from
  • Top social networks sending you traffic
    • Individual posts on those social networks
  • Search engine keywords people are using to find your profile and content
  • Your content with the most traffic

Set Up Analytics For Your Profile

Google Analytics is an advanced tool that may take time to understand if you have never used the platform.

To set up Google Analytics for your profile, you will need to allow Google Analytics to start tracking your profile:
  1. Visit the new "Google Analytics" section of your General Settings
  2. Follow the instructions on how to set up your Google Analytics account.
  3. Follow the instructions on how to find your Google Analytics Tracking ID.
  4. Insert your Tracking ID and click save. Google Analytics is now tracking your profile!
  5. Visit Google Analytics. (Note that Google Analytics' default date range is set to yesterday. You'll have to adjust the date range if you want to see data from today.)
  6. To confirm that it's properly recording your traffic, you can select "Real-Time" to see live traffic stats. (Where do I find this?)
Note: Past traffic data will not be available; you will only be able to see traffic recorded after you have enabled the feature.

Try it out!

If you encounter any unexpected behaviour, please submit a ticket to the Google Analytics project in the devBUG Issue Tracker; if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know in a comment on this article!

Beta Testers, you can now connect Google Analytics to your Profile, bringing access to comprehensive statistics about your deviantART profile, artwork, and more!

Very nice to see! I've gotten it set up and it works perfectly, and very up to date (tested it with a friend and the info is there within seconds. Interesting to have analytics, though I can't make much use of it as a rather unknown person :P)

Is this still in beta or is it released now? It's just, I'm not convinced the referrals showing on my Analytics are actually for my stuff at all. I've checked the pages Analytics says referred people to my dA but none link to my pages at all, but DO have links to other people's dA pages. Is it at all possible either dA is somehow putting my tracker on other people's pages, or Google are getting it wrong? Or does it still count if someone goes referral site -> someone's dA page -> my dA page?

Most have some element of dynamic content so possibly something linking to me was removed, but this site was showing up in my referrals and no way would I have been linked to from there: uozumi.tumblr.com/contact He does link to his dA though.

It's released for Premium Members. It's possible that some of the referral links come from More Like This results, or posts on Tumblr; however, if you're finding that a substantial amount of the results don't seem to match up, feel free to file a report at the Help Desk about it. :)

I think this will be nice to have as an option, especially for portfolio hopefully in the future. A very easy tutorial might be nice. I was just trying to add a filter to remove my phone from getting tracked and had a hard time with the IP address.

Very interesting. It's very clear now that the visits to my page are a direct reaction to my own dA activities. :)

I set it up yesterday but it doesn't seem to even show live traffic (unless that shouldn't include me visiting, I obviously have no clue when other people visit lol). My dA pageviews DO say I've had people come by though and I can't seem to figure out what I did wrong... Am I being too impatient? I checked my Tracking ID twice to make sure I didn't make a mistake... O.o

Please never make Google Analytics mandatory... I know you aren't saying it here, but it's a possibility that I worry about regardless. I'll explain. Google is monopolizing everything, tracking everyone and hurting the end user because there is no competition for them to be more considerate of people because they know people have to use their "services".

For instance, I have been using Youtube out of necessity because there are no other viable sharing sites for my video sharing needs
(If you post videos to another site, they may as well not even exist on the web) and it has been nothing but an uphill battle vs them constantly removing important features, invading privacy, increasing the price that consumers pay for products and other negative things. The reason why they can do that is because of that monopoly and thus keep directing people to use their favored products since there are no alternatives because they bury alternatives even if they are better in every way because the better products cannot get any traction. Thus forcing people to use a product they don't want to get a product they want. If that makes sense. Like, people have to use Youtube, but most don't like Google+. Thus Google fairly recently made it so that in order for people to comment on Youtube, they have to make a Google+ account. Meaning people were essentially forced (and very reluctant) to get a Google+ account in order to regain important functionality of their Youtube accounts just because Google wanted people on Google+. After all, anyone who wanted to be on Google+ already made an account and those that didn't obviously didn't want to be, but they were strong armed into it.

I have been on the net for a long time and I have seen all this happen firsthand. (Look all of the stats and news up if you don't believe me) So please don't let Google get a foothold here by making any of their stuff mandatory.

It's awesome! -though admittedly very confusing to use x'D
Question: Analytics is not showing me any demographic information (age/gender etc). It says: 'Some data in this report may have been removed when a threshold was applied.' but I don't really understand what that means ^^;

I was wondering why people view my profile and my deviations but no one views my whole gallery so I checked it using my other browser and noticed that it doesn't count the gallery and favourites page at all (but counts profile, journal and prints). Anyone knows why?

1. If you mean country, then left column - Audience - Overview - Demographics (section on the page below) - Country/Territory.
2. Left column - Behaviour - Overview.

Interesting now that I've had it running for a few days.

Any way to hook up a group page?  I would like to do analytics on dA-Film-Alliance.

After a few days I can tell that this analytics thing is interesting, but maybe I shouldn't see other people's deviations among the visited pages... :?
I guess I should see only my gallery, journal deviation... whatever pages belong to my gallery.
I don't know if these statistics will be useful for me if 10% of this data is irrelevant for me, because those are just not my deviations. :3
But it was fun to try it. :3

If I remember correctly, that is because of your favourites: the system concerns them as the part of your page.

I am going to have to tweak some of the settings and codes, but this offers a lot of insights as to where traffic originates, is destined for, and how long it stays. Thank you for adding this feature!
