In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

New Deviation Page Testing

Deviation pages are one of the most visited areas of deviantART. With hundreds of millions of deviations to view, and 65 million people browsing the site each month, we want to ensure that navigating deviation pages is as seamless as possible, allowing visitors to get the most of their viewing experience.

Powered by data and feedback from our logged-out tests, we're now ready to test new vs. old deviation pages to deviantART's logged-in audience. Testing two similar, yet different, versions of our deviation page will allow us to gather information and effectively compare which version performs better and is better received by the community.

The New Profile Tabs

As part of an initiative to make deviantART more user-friendly and clearer, tabs on the Profile Page have received a visual and functional uplift!

The tabs on Profile Pages (Gallery, Prints, Favourites, and Journal) have been visually improved for consistency, cleanliness, and an overall up to date appearance. Navigation elements have been moved to the left column of the page, and the placement of major elements of each tab have been aligned so that the transition from one tab of one's Profile to another is more smooth, natural, and clean.

New Journal Category Tree

In our continuous quest to improve the deviantART experience, we have made some changes to the Journal categories that have resulted in a much more condensed and simplified group of selections. The simplification of categories will make the Journal submission process even easier, and make it easier to browse and find Journals you love.

The old category tree was trying to be too specific, which in turn made it tough to find the right category to submit to. The new categories are meant to be clearer, broader, and more inclusive. Starting today, all existing Journals will be migrated to the new category tree.

Visual Uplift to deviantART muro

DeviantART muro has received a visual uplift! The tools have been visually redesigned to look more sleek and clean, while still encompassing the familiar look and feel of deviantART muro itself, and elements of the interface have been toned down to help bring focus to your artwork.

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of the feedback you left for us.
  • Feedback regarding keywords was generally positive. A few deviants voiced concern about how the keywords will be displayed, which is something that our UI team is working on at this time.
  • Some deviants voiced concern regarding users' real names now displaying as part of a browser tab's label. To clarify, this is based on what you input into the "Real Name" field that is already public on the deviantID widget on your Profile Page. This is something that you can change or remove yourself, if you don't want it to display, or would rather it display a nickname.

Testing the New Deviation Page
Under normal circumstances we would have a set Discuss topic, but because changing the deviation page is a significant topic that we would like to keep centralized, we request that feedback relating to that specific topic be left on the testing article. General site feedback and feedback regarding other changes made this week can be left in the comments on this article.

A comment about the  "more like this" feature: It was confusing to me at first, when visiting an artist's deviation page... I thought the same artist had done all of the art shown,
then I realized I was in a different gallery entirely after I had clicked on an image.
If it confused me, I think it would be confusing to others who aren't accustomed to this site.

I don't like the empty box that appears in the first spot my gallery with "submit" in it. It doesn't look good to have it there.

I've been encountering problem whenever I try to post comments through mobile browser. The page always jumps back refreshing the first time I try to submit the comment, causing me having to type all over again since it'll only work the second time I try to post.

There's also been issues with the messages I get from the groups I'm partly moderating in since any sorts of comments posted in the group wouldn't show at all.
There's also some coding problems since for some reason the target=_blank attribute for CSS won't work. That's all so far I guess..

There is no way to report a deviation now. Clicking on the button results in a menu rolling down but there is no final submit button or anything.

On mobile, sometimes a journal cannot be viewed completely, as in it will not scroll sideways (Well maybe it's just me) when set to mobile site.

On the profile, it's really hard to see your page view details (the bar graph). Sometimes it takes me multiple times before it pops open, and the other times it just won't open no matter what I do. This is with te mobile site of course.

I realize this is a bit late, but I figured I should bring it up, seeing as it's relevant to the new deviation page design.

I just recently stumbled upon a submission depicting pornographic material, and went to report it. I was very displeased to find no visible way to actually send my report. Is the send button hidden in a conspicuous location on the page? Was it completely forgotten? Am I just retarded and can't find a button located in plain sight? What's the deal here?

I believe it's the little button next to the Share button.

I've gotten that far. That tiny, seemingly purposefully hidden away button was one of the first out of place things I located in this wonky new page layout. My issue is actually sending the report.

Being as they are late for this weeks one as its the 24th where I am and the last was on the 15th I am hoping and begging that it is due to Deviant Art abandoning this last Layout Update. I haven't spent and hour on Deviant Art combined since then where as the week prior I was spending 15 hours a week.
