What's New

Introducing the New Gallery Framed Print

We are proud to announce the Gallery Frame, our newest addition to an already stellar line of Prints Shop products.

DeviantART's new Gallery Frames are an alluring yet durable option for collectors looking to preserve the art they love. In addition to its elegant design and protective qualities, Gallery Frames are also our least expensive framing option, ranging from about $25 to $75!

Writing Descriptions with Sta.sh Writer (Beta Testers)

As part of our initiative to make formatting and conversation easier and more dynamic, you can now use the Add Media tool to add content and formatting to deviation descriptions, Sta.sh item descriptions, and Sta.sh stack descriptions!

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of what you had to say.
  • Feedback regarding the new username symbols was mixed. Common feedback was in regard to the symbol size or placement, and the lack of symbols for regular deviants.
  • Deviants were positive about the launch of Mentions.
  • Some deviants said that they dislike the icons displayed next to outgoing links.
  • In response to the Discuss topic, deviants mentioned that they generally prefer browsing Newest or Undiscovered rather than browsing What's Hot. A few deviants mentioned not being sure of the difference between What's Hot and Popular.

Discuss!

Mentions

Deviant and Art Mentions were launched to all deviants last week, and we've since seen deviants being pulled into new and inspiring conversations like never before. Have you mentioned a deviant's art, or has your artwork been mentioned? How frequently do you find yourself mentioning others, or being mentioned by others?

I just submitted a journal and I noticed some spelling errors in my desciption and when I go to edit I can only edit the jornal itself and not my description. How do I do it.

I feel it's important to repost this here as well...

As a custom framer who has worked in the custom framing business for five years, I have to say the new gallery frames are disapointing. Not only is the overall design dated and not in line with current framing trends but there is no way that these are "archival" quality at those prices. You may be offering acid free mats, but that will not protect the print unless it is also framed behind UV glass or acrylic (From your pricing there is no way the acrylic offered is UV blocking as it is generally much more expensive than non UV glass) and mounted on acid free mount board/ foam core. Without these items the prints will fade and discolor. It's not a question of if but when. Misleading advertising, shame on you.

I was only mentioned once since last week, but I've mentioned several since then via submission descriptions, like when I credit another deviant for a base or lineart I use. Mentions are a great addition to the site.

That description writer needs to be released to non-premium members soon because HOLY SHIT THAT IS AWESOME.

Hello!
I was a beta tester, but I've had severe issues with the new uploader. Along with several things not working right with <*small> and <*blockquote> mark ups, it changes the coding after I hit submit. It'll add several extra <*small> tags, and <*span>, completely screwing up my formatting on HARPG Horse References.

My suggestion would be that the new editor be an option, much like it is in journals. It's nice for non-formatted submissions, but it's a pain in the rear to edit some existing deviations now.

Hi there! It is optional, same as in Journals. You can switch to HTML mode by pressing ctrl+E (command+E if you're on a Mac), if you don't want to use the Rich Text editor. :)

Thank you! This is a big help :)

Another bug I noticed is that when I press cntrl + E, the editor gets much smaller and it doesn't scroll like it should. I know it's probably just because it's a beta feature but I still thought I'd let you know :)

Sorry, I just have a question, when typing your literature deviation in, is it possible to put it into italics and such? Or is that what the coding at the bottom is for?
If it is...how do you use it?? O.o
Thank you!

Hi there! If you're submitting literature using the "Enter text" option on the Submit page, you can make words italic like so: <i>words you want italicized</i>. If you're submitting literature with Sta.sh Writer, you can change it using the toolbar at the top. Hope that helps! :)

The "Add Media" tool would be a lot more useful if non-premium members could add stuff besides emoticons.

So I'm trying to upload a 32MB .swf file to my stash, and it uploads up to 100%, then gives an "unknown error."

Is it too big..? D:

I'm enjoying Mentions, though it certainly isn't telling me every occurrence.  I discovered 2 journals that each included my username and 3 of my deviations, but I didn't get  Mention about either of them.

More Importantly...
I'm finding that Sta.sh writer's journal-writing feature is a complete nightmare as far as inserting thumbnails is concerned. How are we supposed to size thumbnails in journals when pasting the thumbcode turns instantly into a picture, rather than true code that we can alter?  It seems like a majorly backwards step to have to compose my journals in a Word.doc so that I can use :bigthumb... or actual sizing code, eg < da:deviation id=”numbers only from URL/thumbcode” width=”400”>  Will there be a solution?
I can't seem to access the older style journal writing - is this because I'm a beta tester?  I turned off beta testing, but nothing changed.  It's rather frustrating :iconshakestickplz:

There's drag handles on the thumbnail to resize, or if you prefer you can hop into HTML mode from the edit menu to see the raw code and set a size precisely.

I love the mentions! I've only received one myself, but I did a lengthy feature journal, and it makes it so much easier not to have to send messages to everyone by hand, but having the mentions which direct them without additional effort on my part :D

I have a suggestion...
I think you should add a 'Delete Deviation' option on the Manage Deviations page/bar/widget thing. It would be extremely useful, and save soo much time. It takes forever to go through your gallery and delete multiple deviations. And its horribly repetitive. Especially when you are trying to clean up your gallery and get rid of old work.

Please, please add this. I think a lot of use would be very grateful

Looks good.

Just one thing that's kinda bugged me since the last few updates... Where did the emoticons link go? You know, the link/button that allows you to see all emotes with their coding. Earlier, we could access this list from every comment window. I thought it was very helpful, considering how many emotes DeviantART has on offer. I have a few codes memorized, the ones I frequently use, but sometimes things just call for a special emoticon. I think DA's got the most amazing emotes, there's one for almost everything, but that doesn't help you if you can't find the codes anywhere. Is that a bug on my part? Or is the link really gone? If so, can we get it back, please? That would be very convenient. :)
