  • Sta.sh Writer would attempt to allow deviants to edit stack descriptions, even when viewing a stack in someone else's Sta.sh. Fixed by inazar
  • When on the Submit page, the "Select file from Sta.sh" modal would attempt to use any keyboard shortcuts used elsewhere on the page, and then trigger their effects when the "Select file from Sta.sh" modal was actually opened. Fixed by inazar
  • Searching for community emoticons in Sta.sh Writer's sidebar would stop working after 24 results, for non-Premium Members. Fixed by kemayo

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback left on last week's Site Update! Here's some of what you had to say.
  • There was confusion among some commenters regarding what browsers we offer support for, in the wake of last week's announcement. We still offer support for more recent versions of Internet Explorer, we have only stopped offering support for Internet Explorer 8. For a full list of browsers supported by deviantART, please read FAQ #38: Which browsers and Mobile OS are supported by deviantART?
  • In response to the Discuss topic, deviants mentioned finding inspiration on deviantART through a variety of ways. Some mentioned browsing through specific galleries or communities that create work that interests them, while others mentioned finding tutorials to help them challenge their own abilities as artists.
  • Outside of deviantART, deviants said that music and television contribute heavily to their inspiration.

there should be an option to delete a critique you received, or at least to hide it from public display. it's one thing to receive a critique, but it's another to have it rubbed into everyone's eyes

Wow, google analytics! How fasicnating! Can't imagine a life without! *o* //sarcasm intended.

How about actually improving to group submissions feature? Atleast make it easy to tell which groups allow non-members to submit work into their gallery without having to visit their page.

i already tried it out when i was a beta tester, i have to admit the way it worked was confusing, the interface was confusing, and over all i didn't get much out of it so i don't use it. i mean i literally don't know where to go and what to see and what to understand from what i see D:

i would understand if i would spend a lot of time figuring it out, but frankly, i don't have that time.

if only there was a way to make things simpler, i really love looking at statistics, the one dA offers for premium members is so easy to use and understand, google didn't go a very good job at that unfortunately

Guys, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE introduce the search function in the 'favourites' section of one's gallery :(
I have like million deviations faved and I really want to dig up a certain artist, whom I KNOW I faved, but can't remember his name and it was original art so there's no way for me to find it in general dA search bar :(
But searching tags and cross-referencing them with MY favourites would probably narrow down my result to a few pages. If I search for the same tags on general dA, it will come out in thousands :(
This feature really WOULD BE helpful to a lot of users, who tend to fav and run, but also want to find something later on. Otherwise, what's the point of favourites, if there's no effective way to  search through them? :( (Atm I have 44k of faves and if I want to find that ONE piece because I need it, how am I supposed to do it? >.<)
Please, comment in if you agree, maybe this feature will be introduce if more people ask for it. Cataloguing fave deviations in folders without the 'search' bar is just not enough...

Yes, I agree. I'm usually a bit unenthusiastic about the suggestions that get made but that one would definitely be a huge plus.

I don't ask for critique on dA anymore because usually all I get is "coool" or someone begging me to do a tutorial instead. I would rather have a user say, "This piece looks ugly and here's why I think it is so: -Lighting issue A, depth B, etc..-" than get another "omg this is aewsomez!"

If I want real critique, I go elsewhere.

That new feature for premium members sounds interesting. =)

And I always appreciate critique on my artwork, whether or not I request it. :giggle:

I would like to humbly suggest, even though it won't be considered, that dA stops adding new features for a while and instead focuses on offering a better user experience overall to all members, premium or not. *A LOT* of little things could be done to improve the site and as they add up make dA a more functional site.

Let's be honest here, a lot of things of this site still look and feel like it's still the year 2000, and those wouldn't require an enormous amount of resources to fix or improve.

EXACTLY. For example, StashWriter's been screwed up for, like, a year, and they still haven't fixed it even though I've sent in more than one bug report about it.

And the advertising has gotten insane.... Automatically playing sound, automatically opening other sites, freezing my browser, etc.

But instead of actually working to fix the problems that already exist, they keep pushing all this new stuff that we don't want and which inevitably has their own bugs. -.-

Something's wrong with Sta.sh and my submission! When ever I go and submit I get this error message...

Your scheduled submission has been delayed due an unknown error. If you like, you may cancel the scheduled submission and submit manually.

Sounds like a bug, if you could make a report to help desk we can take a look. In the meantime try using a different browser just for scheduling things.

And apparently you've launched this Google Analytics thing knowing that there is a bug which means that once you've enabled it, you can't disable it.

Why on  earth would you launch something when it's as seriously flawed as that and what is the resolution date?

I only switched this thing on to see what it does and now I'm stuck with it.

Hi there! When you uncheck the box, it actually does stop tracking. The code is retained in the box for ease of use, should you want to re-enable it later. Have you tried unchecking the box and checking Analytics the next day?

Hi and thanks. That's helpful.  and you're right.
If you just uncheck the box and hit 'Save' then it does save the unchecked tickbox and retains the Id, which is at it should be and I've no doubt that it stops collecting the stats.

The confusion is if you uncheck the tickbox and delete the Id code. When you hit 'Save' it puts the Id code back in (which in retrospect is probably what it should do) but it also re-checks the tickbox (which it probably should not do)

The number of "deviations" in your profile is bloated with the number of journals
Reply
:iconformatela:
formatela Featured By Owner Mar 23, 2014
To summarise, by copying and pasting what I've already put somewhere else 'Most of the time if I click on a deviation I just get a big empty frame with an 'x' at the top. The thumbnails for my dev stacks are the same. Sometimes I don't get any buttons on a page so I can't fave or comment.'
And a whole load of other stuff which is typical of a system where the infrastructure isn't coping'.

I know that behaviour and sometimes I know why it happens to me.
It's a timing problem. When I wait too long to click on the download button I got an empthy frame with an 'x'. Refreshing the page and click and I got the picture.
Maybe it could work for you.
No buttons, not saving deleted deviation stacks, saving forever, click on send note and the sending note is disappeared/deleted/? and problems with security settings when paying ( DA isn't secure enough ).
That are my main problems with DA.
But DA is free :D, so take it or leave it is DA's comment?
Reply
:iconformatela:
formatela Featured By Owner Mar 23, 2014
This is when I click on a thumbnail to look at the deviation. Refreshing the page doesn't work. Sometimes if I click on the image to get a fullsize view, I can see it, but normally I have to go back to the deviation stack and click refresh there.  I get all of the other problems that you mention - the yellow 'Save' button is really tedious especially when the deleted dev stacks come back again.

Just so you (and SuperBabyPeach) know, .bmp isn't great for a preview image either because it's not actually an image file. ^^ .png and .jpg are perfect!

I'm not sure if this would be a good idea, but I'm just throwing it out there. On the front page you get to customize how the front page is displayed, and when you click on a piece you like, scrolling down you'd see the 'browse more like this' option. What I think would be good also is having a filter option. So if you're doing a search and you want to filter something you don't want to see (like untagged nsfw stuff ect.) then you can have an option of doing that. Again, not sure if that would be a good to add but it's because sometimes I do a search and I get stuff that I didn't really search for or not even relevant to what I wanted to see.

No; nothing has changed and you don't need google for anything.
It's only an option to have google analytics on our pages to see the statistical information of our viewers and audience.

Personally I like it because I get to see how much of it is repeat traffic and how much is new.
