In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

Importing to deviantART muro from Sta.sh

You can now import files from your Sta.sh into deviantART muro, right from your Sta.sh file itself! Clicking the button will automatically import that image as a layer in deviantART muro, so that you can easily work on an image from anywhere you go.

Change Log

  • The Forum sidebar would display closed threads. Fixed by kemayo
  • Thumbnails in the More Like This section of the deviation page have been changed to a crop style and now show 15 thumbs instead of 6. We are aware that this display is not currently clear for Literature and Journal deviations, and we are looking into a fix for it at this time. Fixed by ZombieCoder
  • In some browsers, trying to scroll through the content of a modal would scroll the page instead of the modal. Fixed by shadowhand
  • The Critiqueable portal wouldn't display deviations past January 23rd. Fixed by yury-n
  • Opening the "Send a Note" button on a deviant's Profile in a new tab wouldn't work. Fixed by yury-n
  • The Points transfer modal had no password entry field when using iOS devices. Fixed by shadowhand
  • Command+click (ctrl+click) did not open new tabs when used on some menus. Fixed by shahyarg
  • Opening one's Friends list sometimes resulted in a fatal error. Fixed by shadowhand
  • The "More from this artist" section sometimes did not show on deviation pages. Fixed by yury-n
  • Notes would sometimes create drafts even though the note was sent. Fixed by shadowhand
  • Some deviants experienced an occasional "Content Encoding Error" in Firefox. Fixed by chris and shadowhand
  • Deactivated, but logged in users were unable to access the Join page until they logged out. Fixed by shadowhand
  • The Group creation process briefly was not working properly. All delayed applications have now been processed. Fixed by banks
  • Users could not go back to search results from a deviation page by using their browser's "Back" button. Fixed by muteor
  • For a brief period, there was an error when trying to adjust one's Activity visibility settings. Fixed by yury-n
  • The "Watch Redraw" button on deviations created in deviantART muro did not work if the deviation was accessed by using the "Next" or "Previous" buttons. Fixed by shadowhand
  • ANSI deviations weren't displaying properly. Fixed by kemayo

Sta.sh / Submit

  • Dragging to select Sta.sh items wouldn't work if done at the bottom of the page. Fixed by kouiskas
  • Deactivated users were able to submit text. Fixed by kouiskas
  • When an uploaded image meets the minimum size requirements, the sidebar now reflects the ability to sell Prints. Fixed by drommk
  • Uploading images when trying to submit an Installable Journal Skin did not work when accessed through Sta.sh or by browsing to the deviation using the "Previous" and "Next" buttons. Fixed by kemayo

Sta.sh Writer

  • The "deviantART" section of Writer's sidebar would display as blank. Fixed by inazar
  • Writer did not display properly on a 1024px screen. Fixed by Alisey
  • Uploading multiple files to the Writer sidebar would not work consistently. Fixed by Alisey
  • Indentation would not be retained when pasting text with 1/2 inch indentation from Microsoft Word into Writer. Fixed by Alisey

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update!
  • Feedback regarding the Forum sidebar was generally positive.
  • In addition to the Forum sidebar, pushyreeder suggested a view counter and tagging options for Forum threads.
  • Deviants were positive regarding giving gifts. Some deviants mentioned that it would be helpful if a person's Wishlist automatically included their Print or clothing size preferences.
  • It would be helpful for the "Give Points" modal to display how many Points you currently have. Suggested by Kira-Ani-McGrath

I'd like to report a glitch in "filters" in DA muro that causes your artwork to go blank.

Still happens - along with phenomenon where you lose your drawing because of the "Your Internet Connection Cannot Keep Up with Your Drawing" error.  I wish like heck that they'd fix it.

I just thought I should report that this message keeps displaying when I try to move deviations around in my gallery and folders - Element '369110455' is not a valid element for this set.

I've tried refreshing and opening new tabs, but the message keeps popping up. I would be really happy if you guys could fix it :) Thank you!

I have a lot of animations saved as gif files. I've just joined deviantART and I'm having difficulty understanding this complicated site. I have managed to put an animation in sta.sh but I cannot move it to deviantart because it says there is no preview. Can you explain how to create a preview ( I've selected 'change preview' and attempted to download an jpeg image but this achieves no result) Can you help or advise me where to find help?

I think the Sta.sh's artwork description has bugs. For some reason it's starting to glitch. Sometimes it removes all code entirely leaving only the text and other times the code's effects aren't applied properly.

Thank you.

There is some type of bug going around right now.
I tried to post my art from Sta.sh, and was ready to submit it to all of my clubs...
But, all I get is a message saying.
"Sorry, we can not put this submission in to group folder."
I even tried making a new folder, but nothing happened... I kept just getting than same message...
Please fix this soon... Because I have upcoming commissions to post...

I've been having a problem lately, on several different computers. Occasionally when I'm looking through my favorites or inbox and clicking on the deviations to visit them, I'll get "stuck" on a deviation page. I.e. when I click the back button (or try some other means of going back), dA just keeps reloading the deviation page instead of returning to the relevant page of my inbox/favorites. This is annoying, because I'm often many pages into my inbox or favorites, and have to try and find the page I was on again.

I am not sure if it's a bug:
Let's say you "store" something on sta.sh and you submit it to dA after a week. Where should it appear when you browse by newest?
You would think it is sorted by the date you submitted on dA itself, but apparently the day gets counted when you submitted in on sta.sh!
Ignore the miscats: I browse by newest: [link]

I submitted my deviation to sta.sh on March 6 and on March 17 I submitted it to dA.
On the deviation itself it says submitted on March 17 but when you browse by newest it appear by the date I submitted it on sta.sh.

I would like to suggest that things stored in Sta.sh could be uploaded by a date you specified. Like, have people put in everything but the picture/literature and would be held off on being posted until that date.

I always liked that idea since I am not on all the time but would like to keep my watchers entertained while I am away. Also might help people who have to upload a series weekly, has it done, but is too busy to do upload themselves.

Can you please think about this, it is really disappointing for me..
How about you let us ! request ! to delete an account which blocks a name.
And if the owner doesn't reply in a fixed amount of time, the name will be free, the account won't be deleted, but if the owner should by any chance come back has to choose a new name.
This request feature would be only possible for accounts without faves or deviations (as in pictures, not jounals, i don't count 'Hi guys, I made an account' as deviation, srsly)

This has been bugging me for quite a while (lets say, 2 years).
There is this name blocker who has his account for 6(!) years, without faves, without deviations, even without journals. And this is the name i would love to get since I registered here, which is extremely frustrating.

*Peeks in*

I ehem had an idea.

I think this site would benefit greatly if it was more touch friendly. I have an I-pod touch and it is incredibly hard to navigate the site, without constantly zooming in and out.

Just throwing that out there, I know you guys have tons of stuff to do, and I don't want to be pushy. :D

Also...why is there a 'High' emoticon. That's wrong to promote being high to people... :/

The one thing I don't like about this change on deviantart is upload my digital art. You have to have a stupid preview whatever that means...but whenever I show a preview of my digital art it won't allow me to upload any! :cries: can someone please get rid of the preview so people can upload digital art regularly?!

every time I see this ..I see more people mad and more anger spread ..I also wish the more like this was back as a button .. but who the hell is going to listen to us ..ff no one is .-. sometimes I just want to get a megaphone and shout it out ..but alas I don't have that .-. anyway Deviant art should be fixing it's bugs and not creating new ones to deal with.

although you will probably not listen .-. once again admins and others should really ask the members before deciding to change something .-. you know like you people always have that poll well .-.

I have a great new feature that would be loved by the people who submit literature, comics, movie episodes and photo sets:

Deviation sets
- The submitter will be able to group and order the submission set, for easy management
- There will be a next/previous button (and if someone wants it a first button) for easy navigation between the parts/chapters/episodes of the set
- Everyone will be able to favorite/watch a set. There will be an overview of the watched sets on the my.deviantart.com page, which will show all deviations in the set and shows the ones you've already seen/read greyed out.

The benefits
- It will be easier the submitter to manage the deviations
- This will give the opportunity to give a name to the set (name of the story) and also a name to the parts of the set (name of the chapter), without interference.
- It will make it easier for story/comic readers and movie watchers to bookmark the page at which they are (since read pages are greyed out).
- If someone hasn't read a story or comic or hasn't seen a movie in a long time and a new part/chapter/page is submitted, they can easily go back to the last read submittion (it is greyed out, but still clickable)
- With the previous/next buttons it doesn't matter if anymore if the submitter also submits other content to his/her gallery, which causes the previous/next button at the top to navigate to submissions that have nothing to do with the set. The new buttons only navigate between parts of the set, while the buttons at the top of the page navigate between submissions in the gallery.

Who would like these deviation sets?
It could be every member of dA, for example:
- If you write a story with multiple chapters
- If you make a comic with more than one page
- If you make films that are devided in episodes
- If you have a photo sequence that belong together
- If dA would allow you to submit music: if you have multiple songs that belong together in an album.

I already heard multiple positive reactions on this suggestion and I believe it to be easy to implement and very beneficial for the dA community!

At the moment, I have stacks activated in my message center. When only looking at deviations from stack x and removing all of them, I am suddenly being redirected to [link] (message overview) instead of [link] (deviations overview)
Is it intended that way? Because normally, you should be taken back to the page where you come from and not some other page. That's the second time there is an unwanted redirection (the first being the redirection to your own profile when you log in, but that's a known issue)...

Thank you for fixing it so fast

But the error also occurs when looking at one stack and then manually going back by clicking at "back". I am also redirected to messages/# instead of messages/#view=deviations

A thought just accord, why is it that, when a user tries to promote art, in the comment section of a different persons art, it's considered spam, but when DA does it (with More Like This) it's totally fine?

Are we aloud to report the site for being a spam bot? XD

That is because they are choosing to feature art that THEY choose and want to publicize themselves. More Like This is a feature that is NOT chosen by the artist, and is advertising other art on a user's deviation before the artist's own art. (This is sometimes degrading to the artist, because instead of finding better art from the deviant, it is leading away from the attention of the deviation page itself and the user. This is unfair.)
The other problem is is that the More Like This feature's thumbnails are larger and can be considered to clutter the deviation page. This is another publicity and advertising-of-other's-work problem because below the feature are smaller thumbnails of the current deviant's pieces.

TL;DR
Advertising other's art while skimping on the artist's work itself is unfair.

Wow I was really repetitive there.
