In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

More Like This (Beta)

DeviantART is proud to announce More Like This - a new way to explore deviantART. When you find a piece of artwork that you love, More Like This surfaces related artwork, artists, and Collections. With More Like This and our other new browse upgrades, deep-diving through the deviantART community's diverse collection of over 200 million deviations just got better.

Enhanced Browsing

We've improved the left-hand navigation bar to include Popular and Newest options! For deviants who like their art to be larger than life, the new Full View mode allows deviations to be browsed through at a larger scale. Full View mode also provides the ability to favourite, collect, view comments, and participate in the discussion right from the browse page.

In addition, our new Show More button allows you to scroll endlessly while browsing More Like This results. For those that prefer the original pagination interface, we've added a Page Settings option to toggle between both modes. Your setting will be preserved as you browse.

Selection Tools in deviantART muro

In addition to some behind the scenes changes made to make deviantART muro to make it more stable, we've added several new selection tools!
  • Elliptical selection options and a magic wand tool have been added to the marquee tool. Once the marquee menu button has been selected, the new options will appear in the bottom bar.
  • Deviants can now create a selection based on the transparency of a layer by command/ctrl+clicking on that layer.
  • Autosave will trigger more frequently, to ensure that your hard work is retained.
  • Some behind the scenes changes were made to make deviantART muro more stable.
  • In addition to the options added to the marquee menu, "select by color", "expand selection", and "contract selection" tools have been added to the Edit menu.

To give the new deviantART muro tools a try, go to deviantART muro!

Blockquote Tool in Sta.sh Writer

You can now easily add quotes to your literature and Journals using the brand new blockquote button on the Sta.sh Writer toolbar!

deviantART muro

  • While renaming a stack, clicking on the title of another one to rename it would cause an error. Fixed by kouiskas

Sta.sh Writer

  • Literature thumbnails wouldn't stop scrolling when they reached the end of the excerpt. Fixed by kemayo
  • It was possible to break elements out of journal entries with advanced CSS. Fixed by kemayo
  • Several behind the scenes improvements were made to the way Sta.sh Writer handles typing and loading drafts. Fixed by kemayo and inazar

Hi ! :)

It would be nice if there was the possibility to choose what blog entry will appear on the main page of our accounts. Because I would love my contest blog stay on the main page, and not more recent blog entries which are less important :).

Thank you for read me ;).

Hello! I have a question, recently filled Sta.sh my gallery, and eliminate much of the material recorded, but only achieve the completion of the 2GB ... by more than delete it, I can not upload anything more ...

what I can do, besides getting the membership, which of course I can not.

Thank you.

On the sta.sh writer, whenever you made a block of text with the div align of center, you repeatedly have to put the html code for subscript.

blah blah blah
-enter-
blah blah blah

You have to put the html code before each spaced paragraph [I call it paragraph because I don't know what else to call it.] While editing it in sta.sh, it looks like this.

<.sub>blah blah blah
-enter-
<.sub>blah blah blah

And it's like this for every little thing. This also goes for the center align, too. I added a copy-paste from a Word Document and added it to the sheet that I'm working on, and now it [the copy-paste] doesn't want to center.

I'm glad that it preserves settings when you are logged in, but if you try to switch to clicking through pages when you aren't logged in, it switches back to endless scrolling on the second page and takes you back to the first page if you try to change settings again. I think that this is unfair to the people who don't have accounts whose computers could have issues from the endless scrolling. Is this something fixable, or just an inherent bug in the system?

Oh, yes. And the New Mobile site, crashes my Kindle as soon as I try to access it now. The old one, at least, usually didn't crash it so long as I only viewed, and didn't try to send any messages.

There should be a way of automatically separating deviantWATCH messages from groups and deviantWATCH messages from deviants. Also, a mechanism that prevents multiple devWATCH messages from being recieved for the same deviation, like when, say, a deviant, whom you watch, submits a deviation to his/her gallery, and then submits it to a group, which you also watch.
Also, I was wondering why it is that when viewing a deviation page, the title of the deviation is a link that takes you to the deviation that you are already viewing.

I really like the concept of "More Like This". I don't know how accurate it currently is, but I mostly scroll through art at random, and I really love the idea of being able to do a 'focused' random search, if that makes any sense. So I fully support its continued implementation and refinement.

In the same vein, I really, really like the idea of endless scrolling. As I'll typically scroll through 25/page for upwards of 20 pages per visit, not having to reload the page each time would save endless irritation. However, currently on my laptop when I hit "Show More" for the first 1-3 times, it will reload the page with just that new selection. Afterwards, it will allow endless scrolling, but everytime I get near the bottom, it will add the new content and force my screen back up to the top of the page. This actually causes _more_ irritation than reloading the page in the first place, especially because it means I can't switch to a channel of my choice at the bottom when I'm tired of random scrolling. I can't reach the bottom without navigating away from my search first.

I'm a little let down that the mobile update still results in the site being a disagreeable with my 3DS as ever before, but that's the way things happen.

And I've never liked the prinicipal of endless browsing/scrolling to begin with. <sighs>

Have you been listening?

Hardly any of us requested a "submit art" for mobile.

What we really want to see is to be able to switch between the old and new mobile site.

Or better yet, bring back the old mobile and just make an app for iPhones.

The browising system on computers has failed. Every time it tries to load a new page of deviations to the existing browser, the user is sent back to the top. This agrivates me. Can you please revert this to the old page system where each load is a seperate screen. Thank you.

In addition, can you please make an app, or make a competition for fellow Deviants to make an app for both iPhone and Android systems. It would be the best way for Deviants on-the-go.

You need to reduce the size of the mobile site, making it quite simlar to the main site just made it 10 times worse, its slow, makes my Android unresposive at times.

To be honest, I wouldn't call it a "Mobile" site if it takes a 1000 years to load.

If you want to make smartphone users REALLY happy, you would have made a damm App by now. :| (along with the ability to use dA Chat as wellroflcopter)

I forgot to say: YES!! I would like to use thumbnails in the deviant description!! :excited:

AND the keywords thing!! I tend to draw stuff that are all related. So that would be GREAT!!

And I use my iPad. So a new/better mobile site would be much appreciated! :)

I like the more like this button. :)

My iPad updated recently, so now I can post art straight from it. Unfortunately, it only allows me to post once each day. Sometimes it's more buggy than usual and I can't at all!

Instead of loading, it cuts straight to processing, and then it gives me a list of reasons why it can't upload. Since the iPad update, it's no longer an iPad issue, and DA is responding. Maybe it has something to do with the mobile site?

Anyway, I hope it gets fixed soon!! I tend to draw more than one pic each day!!

This is probably a bit late, but I really like the new mobile version; you can actually do more than just browse the front page and comment on peoples stuff and all the other things.
Though I kinda have a problem -- I went to write a journal to tinker around with it but it doesn't display the whole page where you can actually write the journal. I can only see the part where you can choose what journal skin (though I dont have premium so that's why I can't use it, but I already knew that) you'd like to use and I can't scroll to the right to write it. So basically I can only see the left side of the page. Is there something wrong with how it's displayed on my phone (I use Android) or...?

Wall of thumbs I can see more. Grid of thumbs looks neater. Full view looks nice but think my browser can't handle it to well as the others. I'm using Chromium. Firefox impossible to view deviantart but seems I am the only one with that problem and only this site.

Still can't send notes from mobile. Does smartphone users not have the same problem? Also i keep nagging about note notification on top of the site because in the old mobile site, you can immediately see in the message centre that you have a new note while now you have to scroll all the way down. Please think about it.

There are lots of ways. More specific search terms should help to begin with, but you can also browse without searching, which will return more than 2,500 artworks for you to look at, and browsing through Groups that promote artwork you enjoy, also. :)

I dont like this new beta, I'm having difficulties viewing other artist artwork in my messages including my own pictures, when I click to view the art pieces the entire pieces are all minimized and I constantly have to magnify the pieces several times over before I'm fully able to see the pics, I'm not sure whats causing this but its getting very aggravating and I'm not sure if this effecting any 1 else.
This all started last Wednesday and now its getting worse.

The more like this feature seems rubbish, by the way. It's something to consider in case your searching system becomes more accurate or if you add a feature like Google Goggles but right now it doesn't give any accurate results at all. I get better results by searching for a keyword or in some cases browsing a category.

Please make the thumbnails a bit smaller. There have been many discussions about the thumbnails but now you added a feature to browse work in full-view I really don't understand anymore what's so good about these huge thumbnails.

> We've improved the left-hand navigation bar
Perhaps it's better in some aspects than the old design but definitely not in all aspects. Someone recently showed me the differences between regular and beta view and in my opinion both views had some good things. You did a good job replacing the icons but the typographical hierarchy is not entirely logical. The top menu items are too big and the "popular" panel has no place there. I would put the "popular" panel in the old spot with the drop-down menu. Collapsing the menu is very unnecessary and only clouds the page while it's a function most people don't actually use with such frequency that you need a collapsed menu. The title of the category menu could be 1pt bigger. The highlight on the thumb view icons is too sharp and the "Mature content" button doesn't render nicely due to that white outline (either remove the outline or go for a much more transparent/subtle outline).

In general the design is not bad but I can't say it's a big improvement and it really doesn't look perfect. By the way, if you remove the "popular" panel from the left menu it will be short enough to show in a fixed position on the left side rather than let it scroll with the page. With a fixed menu people could navigate through the website faster and more fluently. The same counts for the top menu actually.

I think this whole thing has been causing a ton of bugs lately.
When i drag something to my favorites the thumbnail just freezes and hovers over the folder. I can't edit my page at all. Clicking load more just loads a huge page of blanks thumbs. Etc etc.
I've just been having a lot of problems and it's starting to get on my nerves.
Mostly not being able to edit my profile.
