In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

Multi-Submit and Scheduled Submit (Premium Member Features)

Upgrade to Premium Membership to use these new features!

Multi-Submit and Scheduled Submit, two often-requested features that will make submitting to deviantART even easier, have been launched to Premium Members!

Multi-Submit is a tabbed interface built into the Submit page which allows you to upload and submit multiple deviations at once, and Scheduled Submit lets you set a future time and date for uploaded files to be publicly posted to deviantART.

For deviants with a busy schedule, or who like to upload and submit multiple deviations at once, this gives you the opportunity to prepare and present your work to your watchers without having to worry about flooding Message Centers or risking works going unnoticed!

Trying Out A New Suggestions Forum

We've been running a limited trial of the Ideas Forum on our Customer Service Central, and have just expanded this trial to more deviants. This forum allows for a great deal of flexibility in how we approach suggestions, including giving staff the ability to mark suggestions as complete, planned, or not planned, the ability for community members to vote up suggestions they agree with, and more!

Merging Journals in the Message Center

A few years ago, we merged News and Journals. Until now, Journals submitted to the Journal Portal still came through to the News section of the Message Center. Today, all of these messages — and all future messages — have been merged into the Journals section of the Message Center for clarity.

Change Log

  • The "More" buttons in a Group Gallery did not show if the window was too wide. Fixed by shahyarg
  • The global settings for Group Gallery submissions were not being enforced properly for the Featured folder. Fixed by randomduck
  • Clicking a "Visit Journal" link in the Message Center would open the Journal, but the "Next", "Previous", and "All" buttons would not display. Fixed by muteor
  • Links containing FTP URLs would break when formatted. Fixed by shahyarg
  • Browsing Collections in More Like This results only opened first item loaded by 'view more' and scrolling. Fixed by helloandre
  • There was a display issue when collecting thumbs on profile page. Fixed by shahyarg
  • Opening a thumbnail in the footer by using ctrl+click (command+click, for Mac users) would open that deviation on the same page instead of in a new tab. Fixed by helloandre
  • Journal thumbnails would have cosmetic issues when stacked in a Group Gallery. Fixed by shahyarg
  • Promotional discount price changes would not display properly in the "Buy Prints" box. Fixed by shahyarg
  • Prints Shop thumbnails were briefly broken. Fixed by muteor

DeviantArt muro

  • Filters were not behaving properly, often turning the layer either pure black or pure white. Fixed by mudimba
  • There was a cosmetic bug in the layer palette when a file had a large number of layers. Fixed by mudimba

Sta.sh / Submit

  • The "+New" button would disappear in Internet Explorer 8. Fixed by kouiskas
  • For Multi-Submit, if there was only one tab left open before refreshing the page, it wouldn't have the close button after refreshing. Fixed by kouiskas
  • A "Saved to Sta.sh" popup would incorrectly appear when opening a remembered tab. Fixed by kouiskas
  • When closing all previously open tabs and then uploading new items, a duplicate tab would appear. Fixed by kouiskas
  • Clicking the close button too early would make the button disappear instead of closing the tab. Fixed by kouiskas
  • Resetting a tab wouldn't remove saved settings. Fixed by drommk
  • When switching tabs while scheduling a submission, the Schedule menu would close but the calendar would still display. Fixed by drommk

Sta.sh Writer

  • Writer could fail to display included emoticons under certain circumstances. Fixed by kemayo
  • Big thumbnails were broken, and would instead display the same as thumbnails created using the standard :thumb: code. Fixed by kemayo

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback left on last week's Site Update! Here's some of the feedback you left for us.
  • Feedback regarding the Discuss topic varied. Some deviants mentioned posting features for art they like or art they feel fits a specific theme, while others mentioned that they post features to showcase a specific artist or artists.
  • Some deviants mentioned that they'd like an easier way to add thumbnails to features. In response, other deviants suggested using Sta.sh Writer's sidebar to add images more quickly.
  • SingingFlames suggested having different size options for literature thumbnails, to match the different size options between :thumb: and :bigthumb:, when posting features.
  • Deviants generally did not like the suggestion regarding Polls being automatically removed from the Message Center after voting.
  • Some deviants would like to see more of their transaction history using deviantART Points. Suggested by Xeshaire

Creating Art with Apps
There are many apps for mobile devices that are designed for creating art when on the go. Do you use any apps for creating art, when on your mobile device? If so, what apps do you use, and why do you prefer to use that app (or those apps)?

Is it just me or does the "more from artist" actually pick THE LOWEST RATED PIECES FROM THE ARTIST. Things that are in no way "MORE LIKE THIS"; things that make viewers unlikely to even look at RELATED WORKS FROM THE ARTIST.

Yes, I have a fair number of stock backgrounds in my gallery - BUT THEY ARE THE MINORITY OF MY WORK --- SO WHY THE HELL DOES MORE FROM ARTIST KEEP PICKING THAT INSTEAD OF SOMETHING FROM THE SAME DAMNED CATEGORY AS WHAT IS BEING VIEWED?

I had to refresh 67 times before it picked a decent selection from the MAJORITY of my gallery - under the same category as the item I was viewing: "Digital Art / 3-Dimensional Art / Characters / Female" - items that I want more exposure on - items that get 10x the views and favorites that my stock pieces do. THINGS THAT ARE ACTUALLY RELATED TO THE PIECE VISITORS ARE VIEWING.

40 some-odd times it picked from my smaller collection "Resources & Stock Images / Textures / Abstract" - items that often get less than 10 views let alone favorites.

29 some-odd times it did not even load the "more from artist" widget, though it unfailing loaded "more like this" every time.

So... should "more from artist" be re-titled: "obscure pieces that nobody seems to care to look at, that have nothing to do with the current item or the majority of this artist gallery, and are vastly inferior to the the items in the 'more like this' section that actually picks related works from other artists"

It seems to me the intent is still to take viewers away from the current artist instead of showing the viewer items similar/related to the viewed piece.

Is it too much to ask that it at least pick things from the same category? It appears to actively avoid picking items that are likely to be viewed/of similar nature to the current one.

Forgive the rant, but why is so much effort going into the "more like this" algorithm, and so little going into the "more from artist"? Do artists actually want more exposure of their most obscure works, or would they rather display items from their "FEATURED" area.

PLEASE, PLEASE GIVE US SOME CONTROL OVER WHAT SHOWS IN TO MORE FROM ARTIST -OR- PICK ITEMS FROM THE SAME DAMNED CATEGORY AS THE CURRENT ONE.

Either way it vastly improve the experience of visitors to mixed-content galleries.

I am seriously considering DELETING MY STOCK because this feature is PUNISHING ME for having mixed content.

Guess I should do what a lot of others had done before... CREATE ANOTHER damnAccount just for my stock.  :shakefish:

I'm thrilled about several of the new features: "scheduled submit", etc. And I like that there is a more from artist section that is displayed above the more like this section - I just wish it would pick items that are of interest / items that would have been in the more like this section if items from the current artist actually appeared there.

Yes, I have seen "more like this" show items from the same artist WHEN THE ARTIST IS ALREADY POPULAR, but I have yet to see my own items show up in ANY other galleries...

The real shame is that it is not even promoted properly within my own gallery.

The submission process for sta.sh's mobile site needs to be fixed now. I want it back to how the old one was where I could upload Stuff easier. If I try to upload something, my tablet's internet browser crashes and the other Day it was severe enough to reboot my tablet automatically. I want it fixed before I decide to deactivate for Good.

I think it's time to put something more site related in the DISCUSS section of these journals.

How about Collections or Deviation sets/series:

- For instance, as suggested by me
- Or as suggested by Mystrii
- Maybe this suggestion by Acorntail will inform you some more
- And this visual representation by lost-angle shows how it will look

Since this is a common suggestion I think it is a perfect subject for discussion.

I have to agree with doing something with the mobile ap, I recently brought an Android tablet and downloaded the phone ap, within a day I uninstalled it due to how user unfriendly it was and barely responded to me tapping on links. I'm using the desktop version on chrome now and 99% less frustrated.

Hey, I've got an issue. I don't if it's bug or not (I'm also copying most of this comment from my journal but I haven't gotten any response and the problem is still there and has gotten worse).
What happened to the stamps I've been using on my my deviantID?
I used to have so many there, but now my collection has been cut down to WAY less than half!
I've spent so long collecting all those stamps and have spent maybe just as much time putting each and every one of them, one-by-one, onto my ID and and now they're just not there! When I copy and paste another stamp's thumbnail onto my ID everything past the final stamp- which is currently this one: [link] - does not appear; it just shows the thumbnail's numbers. Or that used to be the case, now it shows the title of the stamp and who created it (Like this: i watch scraps stamp by =ChikiTwichMy ).
Does this have to do with dA's new update?
Please, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I don't and won't be able to get a Premium Membership anytime soon (even though I really want one) and as I mentioned before, I spent SO MUCH TIME on these little stamp thingies and to just have them not work and it not be my fault is really upsetting.
Once again, any help would be nice even if it's directing me to somewhere else if asking here isn't the best path to take. You can click on my user name if you'd like to see the issue yourself.

Just jumping in here, but there was an update limiting the amount of thumbs used anywhere and after that limit it will turn into a coded link named the title of the deviation and user who made it. Being a premium member won't change anything and the thumb limit also applies to journals. I'm not sure of the number, but I bet if you copy and pasted your ID in a journal it would look the same :| sorry. The only way I see a premie helping is to use custom boxes, but that would take a while to find the perfect number of stamps and copy and paste the right ones into the boxes...especially considering how many you have :ohnoes:

I thought that might've been it. It's just that... After the thumb codes changed to titles I felt a little glimmer of hope and thought maybe it was just a temporary change and they were just sorting things out. Guess not...
Thanks for answering my question; I'm very grateful for the answer.
Do you know why they put a limit though?

And no, sorry. I have no idea why. It seems silly to me considering a lot of people have a lot of thumbs in a lot of places :ohnoes: I just can't see why limit the amount. Especially on profiles and journals...

It's nothing too fancy.
You can just click the button "New+" near the top were the tabs would be, and then you can upload another picture onto that tab. When you're done customizing the settings, click submit, and the picture on tab that you're on will submit.

What's wrong with having polls automatically removed once you vote? Oh well, it's not like it's a big issue...

If you're going to create a deviantART app (or a deviantART muro app), it sounds like it'd be easier to use than the mobile browser. I feel the mobile site has buttons too small be able to press with one finger, and is generally poorly built for a small screen. I'd love to suggest something specific but I can't really think of anything.

Since I don't own a drawing app, I won't be able to leave feedback for this week's topic. :saddummy:

:bulletpurple: I would be willing to pay a small price for a deviantART muro app (emphasis on SMALL), if one would ever be offered in the future. As long as it could be accessed by all devices (Apple, Android, Nook, and Kindle, mainly; they're the bigger tablet companies, it seems).

Thank you!

Mobile devices and drawing apps: I use Sketch n Draw Photo Pad HD by Photo Sketch Studios for Android on my Nook... it was the least scary looking drawing app my sister could find for me... I draw with my finger, and the results are kinda clunky, but I think a stylus would improve my mileage.

Well the site has to make some money to pay its programmers and stuff. Advertisement isn't enough. Also, there needs to be an incentive to buy a premium membership, since they're damn expensive.

I have a premium only because I have been gifted one, mind you. The name change was the very first time anything seemed actually USEFUL with this premium account. It's all about justifying the expense of being premium, and them having money to pay their employees and whatnot.

I like the schedule submit, but please give us either an option over the settings or remove the succesful submitted submissions from the submit page - it's annoying! I see it in the gallery, if the deviation is submitted or not. This feature is usually an unneeded extra click before I start submitting new deviations.

I do not use any art apps on my cell phone, also not on my tablet as it didn't like the two big proggies I constantly use, therefore I do have a computer.
