In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

CSS3 Options for Journal Skins

Additional CSS options for Journal Skins have been released! Journal Skin designers can now use the transform, transform-origin, transform-style, and transition attributes when coding their Journal Skins, allowing for more dynamic designs than ever before.

Change Log

  • The "Remove from Messages" button was missing from the new mobile deviation page. Fixed by yumeruby
  • Portfolios were not rendering properly on mobile devices. Fixed by ArtBIT
  • For a brief period, clicking the 'Add this widget' button on any widget while editing one's Profile Page would reload the page. Fixed by helloandre
  • Sitback controls were not displaying in Chrome. Fixed by ArtBIT
  • The Critiqueable page was two weeks behind. Fixed by elhsmart
  • When browsing a deviant's Gallery, the Gallery Folder links displayed underneath thumbnails had to be double-clicked to work properly. Fixed by ultramouse
  • Emails notifying of a Prints order being shipped did not include the shipping address. Fixed by ArtBIT
  • For some users, the Featured Prints widget would display deleted deviations. Fixed by duraseb
  • In Chrome, a small number of deviation thumbnails in the "More from deviantART" section on deviation pages would be blank. Fixed by yumeruby
  • Zoomed out image deviations were improperly side-scrolling, causing the scroll bar to appear below the image rather than the bottom of the browser window. Fixed by duraseb

Sta.sh Writer
  • Pressing enter at the end of a link or heading would not end that link or heading, and it would instead continue into the next line. Fixed by Alisey
  • Pressing backspace would not delete an empty blockquote. Fixed by Alisey
  • When previewing a comment in the Forums, the preview wouldn't display thumbnails. Fixed by inazar
  • The Add Media tool would occasionally fail to load when opened on the Edit Deviation page, or when editing a Sta.sh stack's description. Fixed by inazar
  • When previewing a comment, the display would be inaccurate if unclosed tags were left somewhere in the comment. Fixed by kemayo
  • In Sta.sh Writer, the "Link" toolbar popup's "OK" button would get stuck saying "Loading..." after a URL was added. Fixed by kemayo

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of the feedback you left for us:
  • Deviants were generally positive about the change to the mobile deviation page. Some deviants disliked the absence of the "Remove from Messages" button; it has been returned to the top of the deviation page.
  • Feedback regarding the integration of Verold embedding was positive.
  • Responses to the Discuss topic varied, though there were common points of agreement between members. Several deviants mentioned organizing their Collections by medium or by fandom, depending on the purpose of the Collection.
  • Some deviants said that their Collections were to showcase artwork to other artists, while others mentioned their Collections being for personal organization. A few deviants mentioned using Collections for both.

Discuss!

How did you make the name in ()s next to the minimize/maximize/close icons not say your real name?

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying? When on my page, the tab says "wreckling (Trevor) on deviantART".

"When on my page, the tab says "wreckling (Trevor) on deviantART"." I'm talking about the part that says "(Trevor)". I KNOW you can make it say whatever you want, but I don't know how to change it. How do I change it?

You can change that by editing the name setting in your deviantID widget. :)

Click on the pencil button at the top right of the deviantID widget on your page, and select "Edit this Widget". From there, edit the "Real Name" field, and then click Save. :)

Hey, I have a problem concerning commissions/points... points from the commissions widget aren't going into my account even after I've finished the commissions, and someone who I did a commission for has rejected to pay me even though they loved it

If the commission was done through the Commissions Widget, your payment should appear on your Earnings page, which can be accessed from the Shop menu at the top of the site. :)

Ah, I see what you mean. That's because the transaction wasn't done through the Commissions Widget at all. Your best bet in this instance may be to file a new Policy Inquiry, although because it was a commission done outside of our system, they may end up telling you the same thing you were told on the first ticket...

I can no longer edit or enter the journal, in the sense that I do not own the screen appears when I try to insert one, look to see the comments I'm forced to restart the page, again for the comments there is no longer the "Add Media" then I can't insert emoticons, and more does not delete notifications. It could depend on these updates or are there other reasons?! happens to someone else? i really don't understand nothing!...

thank you very much for your response!

then, my first problem relates to the journal; I can't edit them or insert them, when I try to click "submit new journal entry" I load a page in which I can only see the green background of deviantart.

The second problem relates the comments: I don't have the option "add media" to put emoticons.
when I post a comment, to see him like this, I have to restart the page and sometimes I don't put them on.

The third problem is that I can't delete the notifications that I get.

thanks for your interest!! <3

I understand, but could you check it in other browsers? It could help to find out if it's the global problem or just the problem of Chrome only.

Such a shame that the journal skins (or anything related) is still a mess. Like much on DA nowadays...

Have journal skins stopped working for anyone else? I still have my premium membership, but I'm stuck on one journal skin and the others I have installed aren't showing up. I also can't install any new ones.

The easiest way to make one is to find one you like the layout of and then adjust the code to give it the colors or images you want. That's what I did with mine anyway. As for a basic knowledge of CSS coding for ease of adjustment, there are plenty of tutorials, both here on DA or found by Googling.

Hope this helps. :)

Hooray for more CSS options! :la: I'm all for any new ways users can customize their pages and journals.

One suggestion, since this month's poll is about collections, is I would love to be able to have sub-folders. Because of the drop-down menu and side-scrolly drag-and-drop interface for adding to collections, it just reaaally clunky to have more than 5 or 6 folders. Because we have so many varied artists in the community, I feel it's only necessary to keep things organized. It would be really nice to be able to drag and drop deviations into a "Resources" collection and later sort them by "Stock Photography" and "Drawing tutorials" within that.

I think the new mobile deviation page is a big step in the right direction (I'd like it a little better if we saw the artist's comments underneath by default- so it's more like browsing on the computer)- but I really think the message center and the notes page need to be a priority. I know I'm more likely to be on mobile to check my messages rather than browse for new art on my tiny phone screen, but the mobile notes page doesn't load properly 8 out of 10 times. It also doesn't allow one to look at folders or sent messages. Because of this I only use the desktop site, even on my phone and tablet.

I don't use way back very often... So I don't have much comment on it, good or bad.

I wish that after an account has been deactivated for let's say.....6 months, it would automatically be taken off of your watch list, so you wouldn't be watching that channel, nor would it be watching you, and appear in your count of watchers.

Ever since the new view of deviations while using mobile, my messages won't display on mobile 9/10 times. I use a Samsung Galaxy S3, and do most of my browsing on mobile so this is particularly frustrating.

I use way back and I'd love it to cover a longer period of time... For example, I'd like to see most popular images in Fashion Photography for the year 2013 (from beginning of January to end of December).
