What's New

Prints Integration on Deviation Pages (Beta Testers Only)

Today we're bringing you an easier way to purchase art on deviantART! When viewing a deviation that is enabled as a Print, you'll be met with a sleek new menu that is designed to be simple, straightforward, and encouraging.

Group Journal Editing in Sta.sh Writer (Beta Testers Only)

In addition, we're bringing you a feature that makes it easier for members to collaborate using Group Journals. Admins who have Journal editing privileges can now edit Sta.sh Journals posted by others. The feature makes it easier to edit, maintain and collaborate within your Group.

Your Feedback

Thank you all for the feedback left on last week's update! Here's some of what you had to say.
  • In response to our asking about the Prints submission process, several users mentioned that being prompted to submit every image deviation as a Print was cumbersome, particularly when submitting works in progress.
  • Bloodsong13T and overseer mentioned that selecting options when setting up or editing Prints submissions can become tedious.
  • Feedback regarding the suggestion about comments auto-updating was mixed. Some were pleased with the idea, while others felt it was more distracting than helpful.
  • Deviants would like a way to preview how their art will look when printed before submitting it as a Print. Suggested by overseer
  • Some deviants would like an easier way to create sub-bullets in lists, in Sta.sh Writer. Suggested by Katara-Alchemist
  • Deviants would like to send notes from a Group account. Suggested by aboveClouds
  • It would be helpful for a deviation sold as a Print to show the number of sales it has had. Suggested by Blue-Koi
  • Some deviants would like to be able to embed video into their portfolios. Suggested by Su5anLee
  • Deviants would like to be able to download drawings they've done in deviantART muro from their Sta.sh. Suggested by Mattehboy

Discuss!

The Friends System
The Watch feature allows you to follow your favourite artist's artwork and activity, while also giving you the ability to mark other deviants as being your friend. How would you like to see the friends system be improved? What features would you like it to have?

Umm you guys doing anything with membership settings? I cannot use my membership... When I try to post journals I don't get the skin, I cannot make polls... but everything that was already there works perfectly. Custom windows etc. However if I touch them, it won't work anymore.
I see ad's etc etc.
I have 14months of membership, would be a shame if they didn't work.

By the way...

When will we be able to delete group notes in our group(s) ?
It has been, what.. 2 ? 3 years, and still nothing ?

...they give the option to keep, but not the opposite and EXTREMELY BASIC option to delete ?
What's up with that logic, seriously ?

The Friend System
If you wacht someone and marked him/her as friend, you could get an Activity Message when he/she got banned

a few people who I watch got banned lately and I always found out late, so I was wondering if this could be an option

1. The site interface still sucks. After more than a month and failed correspondence with the help desk. D.A. still lags like hell. :iconepicfail-plz:

2. The GIANT OVERBEARING THUMBNAILS ARE HIDEOUS!!! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU PEOPLE THINKING???

3. YOU blatantly ignore for more than a month peoples complaints. YOU are being completely disrespectful. And people should not stand for such assholishness and snobbery.

4. I WILL MAKE IT SIMPLE!
Shrink the thumbnails. shrink the thumbnails. SHRINK THE THUMBNAILS.
Shrink the thumbnails. shrink the thumbnails. SHRINK THE THUMBNAILS.
Shrink the thumbnails. shrink the thumbnails. SHRINK THE THUMBNAILS.
Fix the interface. fix the interface. FIX THE INTERFACE.
Fix the interface. fix the interface. FIX THE INTERFACE.
Fix the interface. fix the interface. FIX THE INTERFACE. It still takes up to FIVE freaking minutes for any D.A. page to load correctly. Absolutely ridiculous!!!
You all have no respect for us people who generate your revenue, if you decide to not adhere to our requests. HOW SAD!!! :-(
Pathetic. :pissed:

Maybe a way to feature one's friends instead of just lumping them together in one box, since they are what motivates an artist? And would a better way to organize them help?

on the "X added Y to their faves" note, it would be nice if it would be possible to post a message directly on their page from your message centre.

and when you deactivate, it's possible to see what new account the peron has like- "Dance5 deactivated their account has moved to Dance345" or something, so people who arn't PM's can find it easier to keep friends

SUGGESTION: Concerning the subfolders within gallery folders: TO make it neater in appearance I offer two suggestions

I've been thinking on this for some time now, with the new thumbs being larger now in galleries, I tested it on my own gallery in one of my folders {a story of mine} the thumbs are reduced from three wide per row to two thumbs per row due to the add new folder to the gallery being to the right of the gallery itself. This is annoying because it shoves all the gallery information for the particular gallery over a thumbnail, thus making three per row, into two per row for thumbs. Which is not good and I personally do not like the look of this. Some thumbnails are very wide whereas others are narrow, thus screwing up the neatness appearance.

HOWEVER!! I have a suggestion to fix this.

Why not move the gallery adding to the area directly BELOW the folder details. For example, say you have DEVIOUS FOLDER as a gallery folder name, then you add some folder notes to the new folder inside of it. Once that is done, directly below those notes is the option to add a folder to that gallery. rather then how it is now, where it shoves the details over a thumbnail space, and really screws up the coding.

Its a suggestion I have been kicking around and personally I think it will look a heck of a lot nicer to move the create a subfolder for a gallery folder to the area directly below the gallery folder details area. Some people like to put text in those folders to detail them, and with the add folder option, that text info area gets shoved over a space further into the folder itself, thus making things narrow. It does not look good codingwise if you ask me. So my suggestion as noted above will help with the coding, and make things look nicer and far neater then it is now.

OR

If the above suggestion is not workable, or is too complex to create proper coding, perhaps instead adding an option within the folder details options area to want to add subfolders to the folder, defaulted to YES, and able to check NO, and when NO is checked the option to add a subfolder will not appear in that folder, thus making things look nice and neat and three per row {I am not used to having my internet browser fullscreened, as it drags on computer power for me. and my screen is not that big to begin with anyhow.}

Hopefully these two suggestions can be thought over, or even tried ? Perhaps also taken into beta testing as well to find any bugs with the coding and system for it ?

It'd be nice to have a notification/confirmation type thing when someone lists you as a friend. As it is now - it's pretty much just a random list of people that may or may not actually be friends.

Hey, maybe that's a small thing that the free members could use! Everyone's tired of the same old deviant Green we have going on constantly. Maybe some alternate colors would be a simple solution, even if it's just for journals?

I don't know if the idea was dropped, but in the past, the offer was made about comments made by the artist on the artist's work having a special highlight. I believe it was turned down because it was distracting, but what if when the artist comments on their own work, there's a special little symbol? It's not as distracting as highlighting the entire comment, but it lets you know that the artist has a response.
Just a little food for thought from yours truly.

I don't think an auto-updating system for comment would be useful... it'd be as you say "distracting" and even annoying for those unfortunate people that still have a low bandwidth...
Also someone suggested in the comments that we should be able to set a day for the deviations in Sta.sh to be posted on... This would be useful. For example, for those who post comic pages on particular days, and want to keep their rhythm while away from the Internet...
Finally, I'm not really sure to know what is the "friends" thing... I've just noticed that my "friends" appear in the dropdown menu on the top right corner... I use it to instantly know when one of my friend is online, so that we can maybe talk. I think we should get a notification when someone adds us to their friends... and probably many more things. Currently there are no real difference between a friend and another deviant we watch...
Anyway, keep on your amazing work !!! :dalove:

When I submitted art from sta.sh yesterday, I noticed that you've got a UTF8 encoding error when entering a description in sta.sh and submitting it to dA. Once it appears in dA, the text is double-encoded (e.g. German umlauts ending up as ä, ö, ü...). You might want to look into this issue.

Hopefully DA fix that issue by now, that the only thing i can think of... because getting virus aren't fun. just want it to get known that the site has gave virus before, I'm not saying they still do but it just something to might wanna look out for.

And Yes i know my spelling is bad. just look over that.

I have a question about Sta.sh: is it possible to give the things in your Sta.sh a set day for them to be posted on? Like, if I wanted to post something on the 30th of October, but won't be near any computers during this time, would it be possible to set it up so that it will get posted automatically when it hits that date? I think it would be a really handy thing to have, especially for comic book artists. =)

Basically I like the friend system as it is. :)
But I think managing friends should be a bit easier.
When I open the friend list I see groups and people mixed, it would be practical if groups would be a separate part of the list.
And I would be happy if I could move multiple people to a list with the same watch settings as they were in the unsorted list.

I like how the friend system currently is, the only update I'd ask for is the ability to select users on the list and add them to the Deviant Lists we create. One key feature I'd say would be most useful for it would be if we were able to select more than one user at a time.

The only other thing that I can currently think of worth doing is making it so we can block comments on our journals. If this feature is available in Sta.sh that still wouldn't be useful because then we'd have to constantly go back to Sta.sh just to check and un-check the feature if it was only being used while we were going through an emotional time and didn't want people to bother us.

Also, this might be worth doing later on, but how about introducing sub-folders to our favourites, as well. That would be super, for the members that are just here to favourite things, as they can create a collection for their favourite artists and then create a sub-folder for each artist. The sub-folders are great, but not organizable enough I feel, but its a work in progress I'd say. Baby steps, make doing these things easier right?

Unrelated, but I was wondering if you guys were still considering the idea of letting us choose which deviations show up in the "more from this artist" column of our deviations? I know the idea didn't get much attention when you first suggested it because the thumbnails kind of shadowed it out, but I still think it's a really good idea; it bugs me to see old works that I'm not quite as proud of show up in there, but at the same time, I don't really feel that they should be moved to my scraps. Plus, they often show up in a really bizarre order that looks awkward. :/

Oh yes, a friend system update would be nice! :la:
Probably I'm just to stupid to find it, but is there any function behind friend lists (categories)? I would like to be able to change friend lists (categories) in my friendslist ("Friends"-buton at the top of the page/Who's online?). For example "Who's online of my reallife friends" and "Who's online of my internet friends".^^
Also a bit order in my Deviations messages would be nice. Maybe you could seperate them by friend lists just like group messages (this list you can click on on the left). Then you could add watched people as friend to categorize their deviations by medium or something.
Would be awesome :dummy:
