In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

Sale Statistics on the Earnings Page

As part of an initiative to consolidate features and make deviantART more user-friendly, the statistics system for Prints has been ported into the My Earnings page!

Stats for Prints have been ported into the Earnings page to make them more readily accessible. In addition, stats for Premium Content and Commissions have been incorporated as well, so you can easily track sales for your Prints and downloads all from one page.

You can sort statistics by date or by purchase type to find what information you're looking for. When viewing by date, the sales will be arranged based on when they sold, and when viewing by type, the sales will be sorted between Prints, Digital Content, and Commissions, arranged from highest to lowest selling.

Targeted Drops and Infinite Scroll in Sta.sh (Beta Testers)

Two new features to make viewing and organizing your Sta.sh even easier have been launched to Beta Testers!

When you upload a file to your Sta.sh by dragging and dropping it, you can now easily put your file in a specific place in your Sta.sh! This combines the process of uploading and organizing, making it easier than before to organize and maintain your projects, even when adding new files! In addition, infinite scrolling has been added to your Sta.sh!

Digital Content in the Message Center

Deviations that have Digital Content enabled will now have a "Digital Content Available" label on them, to match the labels when Prints and Downloads are available, as well as to help promote sales of your work!

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback left on last week's Site Update!
  • The majority of the feedback left on last week's Site Update was related to new deviation page testing. In the coming days, we will be updating the community on the successes of the new design, as well as addressing areas that need further thinking and refinement. In the meantime, we appreciate your continued feedback.
  • Of particular note, deviants liked the change to More From This Artist, and disliked the changed position of the Favourites and Remove from Messages buttons.
  • Feedback regarding the Profile Tab uplift was mixed. Some deviants mentioned a dislike for the "Submit" buttons on the Gallery and Journal tabs.

Discuss!

one suggestion is users can make multiple icons for use like :iconcryforeverplz: instead of just a picture, i think it would be nice to be able to make icons  that can be used

You can make plz icons all you want, since you don't have to have an account verified to change the icon. All you do is you sign the account up with a fake email and then change the icon and maybe some profile info.

I have two suggestions for deviantART, and one is rather large, so it would take quite a while to put together, but it would be very very useful for all of those who use the Premium Content Platform.

The first, and simplest, of the two, is when someone has the commissions widget in use on their profile, I believe it would be beneficial to have it say that they accept commissions at the top of their comments when they leave them, right next to what kind of artist they are (see image below). I think that would help people who are offering commissions to advertise that fact in a way that isn't in-you-face, but is everywhere they comment.

The second, and a bit more complicated, idea I have is for premium content to have the same kind of section for itself on DA that Prints do. When one goes to the main DA page, you would look to the top left and see the navigation column with both a prints shop and a premium content shop (see image below). Also when browsing all artwork on DA, since prints have the little shopping bag icon next to the title on the thumbnail, I believe that premium content should also have the little diamond icon in the same place, and if someone is selling both premium content and prints for the same image, that both should appear.

I think that both these additions would greatly help artists attempting to sell their work, and they would actually greatly help DA as well, since with every commission and every premium content sale DA gets a royalty. It would make it much, much easier for people to browse and find that they are looking to purchase.

I'm having trouble with the mobile version of the sight on my Android, when I'm browsing the screen will suddenly go white then it will take me to my app store to try and get me to download an app/game (usually Candy Crush) so that I have to go back to my web browser close the tab that previously had DA on it and open it again. This is especially annoying if I'm looking for something specific and I have to start my search all over again, since the recently closed section will only give me a link back to the page that's advertising the app/game.

Thanks for paying attention to the negative comments

I've never sent multiple notes but I noticed that contest results or ads for commissions are sent this way. What I appreciate in the notes system is auto-completion, that is useful, and easier to use than if we had to type the whole usernames !

Re: Digital Content in the Message Center

I am so very disappointed that dA chose to notify us of the opportunity to purchase digital content (Premium Content Platform purchases) via labels that are only temporarily attached to thumbs received in our Message Boxes rather than permanently attaching small PCP icons to applicable thumbs in the same manner that small Print icons are attached to thumbs when prints are available. There must be hundreds, if not thousands of artists on dA, who offer the use of their artworks through the PCP; but since I'm not watching all those artists, I'll never be able to find their offerings except by stumbling across them (which is the system I'm now using). Also, the new digital content labels only appear while those thumbs remain in my Message Box, and they disappear forever as soon as I delete those thumbs from my Message Box, making them totally useless for potential purchases in the future. Just like there isn't a way to search for deviations uploaded under Creative Commons Licensing on dA, neither is there any way to search for deviations with PCP offerings. At least having small PCP icons attached to thumbs (and maybe even having CC icons attached to thumbs, also) would at least make those offerings easier to find when doing general searches on the site. What a lost opportunity.

I have a suggestion :3 maybe for another update, could you do something kinda like on one of your deviations how it has the how many favorites, feedback, views, and downloads it has, where you could click on views and see who viewed it? Instead of just having the number? I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to see who's taking a peek at my art

Yes ,I send notes to multiple deviants at once for different reasons .

The most recent one was because I was a participant in the Beyond Boundaries contest where participants are divided into teams of four . So I was sending my ideas and replies to all my team members at the same time to keep them updated . and Every one of my teammates did the same .

I also might send a greeting note for Eid or Ramadan month to all my Muslims friends at once .

I have sent a note to multiple deviants but I don't use it very often. It's useful when you have to inform many people about something, like a contest. When I talk just to admins, I use Announcement but I was once organizing a contest in few groups. Also, that way you can inform people who declared to give prizes for contest about the results. I rarely use Notes for private stuff because I usually have other ways to communicate with closer friends (like Skype) and with others I talk under their Journals/deviations.
So all in all, it's a useful feature but usually not used too often.

Well, I'm glad the favourite button got and the layout of the deviation pages got fixed!

On another note, again I would like to suggest adding a search bar for your favourites, it would be hella conveniant to look for things instead of scrolling through hundreds of pages!

Thank you for putting the favorite and remove from fav buttons back  and getting rid of the tabs. Its much more convenient now.

Maybe you could still display stats under the deviation where the tabs used to be? though, it might be one less thing on the side menu but if you just display them under the deviation in plain view for quick reference instead of hidden in a tab?

Uh, regarding notes...
I know it has nothing to do with the question, but can we please have threaded notes? It can sometimes be a real pain to search for an earlier note in a long conversation.

Any improvement to Sta.sh is great because I use it all the time. Does anybody know how to copy and paste into Sta.sh Writer and have all your rich text go with it? I always have to go back and change it once it's in there. f there's not a way to do that, it definitely needs to be looked at.

Usually I send notes to multiple people if they're in a feature I'm putting together, or need an update about a contest I'm putting on. Also I send notes to folks that may have something of mine in their favourites and I want them to know an update about it. I do features once a month, and contests or image updates even more seldom.

RE: Discuss

While I normally don't send notes to multiple deviants, I have in the past. Usually for group related projects (for stuff like judging contests, where judge bias based on how others voted needs to be eliminated), or similar. I will say that sending something to multiple people was hard to learn. Also, sending something to many people could be considered a form of spam. Generally, I have private conversations with notes and not with a group or people.

Man, those tabs were just blah. Not once did I browse when it was like that. Now it's back to the
scroll and see way. :3 Though it is slightly different, but it's back. Not too too annoying compared to
what it was before.
As a tiny artist like me, I always loved seeing how many views I got from
a new submission. It's one of those little things that keeps me wanting to draw more and share on
this site. Don't know why you guys had to take that out, maybe you forgot?

But still, much appreciated.

The new pages look MUCH better! I'm glad the favorites button was moved back. :D Thank you for listening!  As far as the multiple notes things go, I only send multiple notes to contest winners, feature notifications, and those who donate to contests as a reminder/let them know who won. The feature notification issue was fixed with this most recent beta update. It's a stroke of genius by the way. :D It solves SO many problems, especially in the stock world for artists who sometimes forget to notify us of use, but still credit. :D I love it! :squee:

But I have received several notes addressed to multiple deviants, they seem to be very good for quickly sharing a piece of information with a select few people.

Okay, I have to acknowledge that dA has improved the More Like This to what I'd hoped it would be- More from the Artist goes on top and More Like This is below and it looks fairly nice. I like this change! I've never used the "Remove from Messages" button (I never really noticed it), so I can't chime in on that, but the new location of the Favorite button is disconcerting- not sure it's really an issue, just something different so I need to get used to it.

Okay, I'm feeling hopeful now. Rich text for lit submissions, please? I'd love that.

Probably they didn't do it yet so you could choose because for a long time opinions about sta.sh writer were very mixed, lots of love lots of hate :P now it's evolved to the point where pretty much all problems were solved. Now I agree it would be great if entering text on the submit page would happen in sta.sh writer. :la:
