In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

The New deviantART Comments

One of deviantART's strongest assets is the community's ability to bring self-expression into conversation, pushing the boundaries of creativity to a new level. We've improved creative communication by launching a new way to comment on deviantART, with access to formatting, emoticons, and, for Premium Members, the ability to include artwork and files in your comments.

Importing in deviantART muro

A new tool for importing images into deviantART muro has been launched!

When using deviantART muro, there is a new "Import" button located in the right column, beneath the opacity slider. When clicked, the sidebar will change and expand to match the style of Writer's sidebar. This change reinforces consistency between products, and also makes it easier for files to be imported with a single click, be it from your computer, your, or even from your deviantART Gallery!

Your Feedback

Thanks for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of the feedback you left:
  • Feedback in response to the Discuss topic varied. Several deviants mentioned that they felt their Favourites were both a place to collect things they like and showcase artwork, though other deviants felt that their Favourites were more for themselves.
  • Regarding easier methods of discovering art Favourited by deviants you watch, those who commented generally were opposed. Some deviants mentioned that if it were separate from the Message Center and respected one's Activity settings, they wouldn't be as opposed.
  • Deviants would like a word count tracker in Writer. Suggested by ohsparrowsong

Emoticons in Comments
The New deviantART Comments have brought emoticons and their usage to the forefront like never before. The "Emoticons" section of the Add Media sidebar enables all deviants to easily choose from official and/or community emoticons, allowing for even more expressive deviantART comments. Tell us about your emoticon commenting experience.  What have you found useful? What could still be improved?

When I search it's only letting me view the first page and then it says "end of results" and/or the other pages aren't loading. What's wrong?

I can't seem to submit my story using writer, but I can only submit it to my journal. Can you find a solution to this problem?

I'm not sure if I'm the only one that has this problem, but whenever I click Add a Drawing, the thing never loads. Heck, I even waited for more than an hour and the thing still hadn't loaded! So, is this something that everyone is experiencing or is it just me?

If it aint broke, don't fix it!
Really, there was nothing wrong with the way it was before, why change it?
I have experienced a bug with this new feature which I will report shortly.  (It has to do with the box deactivating if I try to click in it after opening it.)

I agree with the others here, bring back [link], it's nice n clean and if you hover over it you can see where it leads.

The previous method didn't take so much resources from my browser, I can clearly feel it slowing down when I open up a comment box and/or open the add media area. (My computer is old and slow, so it's quite noticeable. The comments is one of the reasons I love DA over other social websites, since it isn't as resource intensive, was always painless compared to sites like FB.)

If you know a bit of html you could show off. Not anymore.  :(

And I agree with what someone else said here, being able to add pictures to your posts is just going to cause problems, because let's face it, some people can't control themselves, which, if it isn't obvious enough, is going to push up load times.

On the plus side, I do like that the emotes dictionary comes up on the same page. But it takes up way too much space.

Oh and if I try to list things 1, 2, 3, etc below each other, it adds spacing inbetween the sentences the way it does in word processors. I hate that. Bring back simplicity. :)

Okay, I was willing to give the new comments a chance, but not anymore. Nobody has any need to add a bunch of large, complex files to a COMMENT. It's much easier to use links. All it does is crash the page, so nobody can even write a comment anymore! Now, I don't like being one of those people who constantly bitch and complain about updates, but these recent ones aren't making anything better!
Plus, not everyone can, or is even willing to download a million new browser versions just to go on deviantART. So, please, do polls or beta-test longer or just do something before bombarding us with these updates, because this is getting ridiculous.
