In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.

What's New

This Deviant Watches You

A new feature has been added to the Profile Pages of deviants who watch you! When visiting another person's profile, a "Watches You" bubble will now appear next to their +Watch button if they are watching you.

The ability to see if a deviant is watching you is a feature that has been requested frequently in the past by deviants, and it was rated highly on the new Suggestion Forum. We are happy to implement this feature and we hope it'll give more context to your relationships with other deviants.

Help Desk Closure, July 4th and 5th

In honor of Independence Day in the United States, the Help Desk will be closed on Thursday, July 4th and Friday July 5th. We'll be back to our normal business hours on Monday, July 8th. Please keep in mind that due to this extended weekend, there will be response delays upon reopening, while we catch up from the weekend's tickets.

Change Log

  • Removing a deviation from a Group would not work properly when the deviation was in more than 8 groups. Fixed by muteor
  • Mobile support has been improved for Microsoft touch devices. Fixed by muteor
  • The "Browse", "Scrapbook" and Search options when in a deviant's Gallery were briefly broken. Fixed by shadowhand
  • When editing one's Channels, the Categories menu could not be accessed properly. Fixed by iconocrash
  • Under specific circumstances, the "Watching" button would disappear from some Super Groups. Fixed by DEVlANT

DeviantArt muro

  • In some instances, deviantART muro could give a misleading "Bad Font" error during a Redraw. Fixed by mudimba
  • Ctrl+A (Command+A, for Mac users) would not highlight text when editing a layer's name. Fixed by mudimba / Submit

  • An odd outline would appear when creating a new stack. Fixed by drommk
  • Group-exclusive submissions that were scheduled would wrongfully be added to that deviant's Gallery. Fixed by drommk
  • The preview for a submission would sometimes not appear after uploading. Fixed by kouiskas
  • If the last remaining tab was a successfully published scheduled item, resetting/closing the tab wouldn't work. Fixed by kouiskas
  • When selecting files from on the Submit page, holding ctrl (command for Mac) and clicking would not invert the selection state of that file without affecting the rest of the selection. Fixed by drommk
  • Holding shift and clicking when selecting files from on the Submit page will now add clicked files to the selection. Fixed by drommk Writer

  • deviantART muro redraws that were embedded into a Writer document would link to the current document instead of playing. Fixed by kemayo
  • Icon codes and other deviantART formatting didn't display properly when copied and pasted. Fixed by kemayo and Alisey
  • In some instances, Writer wouldn't break long words, causing page width issues. Fixed by inazar
  • When leaving comments in (or elsewhere on site, for Beta Testers), the Writer sidebar allowed text selection, making dragging thumbnails difficult. Fixed by kemayo
  • Writer in comments was not launched on the forums for Beta Testers. Fixed by inazar
  • The thumb limit for images in comments could be bypassed by clicking rapidly. Fixed by kemayo
  • Clicking between multiple comment boxes on a page could cause the Add Media sidebar to close. Fixed by inazar
  • The "Add a Drawing" button would reappear if you clicked to leave a comment, clicked elsewhere, and then clicked back to that comment box. Fixed by inazar
  • When leaving a comment using Writer, switching to or from HTML mode by using ctrl+E would shrink the comment box. Fixed by inazar

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update! Here's some of what you had to say.
  • Deviants liked the updated appearance of the Twitter widget, but several deviants voiced concern regarding the amount of page space images in the widget took up.
    • We have opted to remove images from the Twitter widget in response to the concern voiced by deviants, as well as to help ensure that content displayed on Profile Pages meets deviantART's Terms of Service and Etiquette Policy. Twitter icons will still display, as per Twitter's branding guidelines.

Linking Usernames
You can link to deviants in Journals, comments and most other places on deviantART by using the :dev: and :icon: codes. Do you find these methods easy to use, or would you prefer a tool that autocompletes usernames as you type them?

This week's Site Update includes a new, easy way to tell if a deviant is watching you, an update to the Twitter widget based on last week's feedback, and more!

I'm not a big fan of the change in creating links.

It was fantastic when I was able to write in a link and then it would be displayed as {Link} or it would be a written message instead of just {Link}; it got rid of that messy URL scribble in journals and comments.

This page talks about the different ways to create links on DA and I really loved using those methods, it looked so neat and tidy - I sure wish it was brought back.

About linking usernames, I think that the :dev: and :icon: codes work well (once one finds out that there are such codes XD But the Faq section explains it perfectly, so it's OK).
About suggestions, I'd like a sort of "visitors" widget for Journals, or, better, to know whether visitors are from dA or not (many deviants keep their status anonymous, but I think a difference can be made between members and non-members), and also the possibility to know who installs Journal Skins.

I'd like to register a complaint (and I have some people to back me up in a forum). I don't remember exactly when you put journals into the mainstream search engine, and honestly, I feel that was a bad move. A very move.

People who come to DeviantArt are here to see art, not silly blog entries with nothing in them.

Why don't you just let the journals have their own thing, like the groups and prints?

Hey, is there a way to reupload a file? Because there's a deviation I wanna make changes to.

Hi there! You can change the main file of a deviation by editing that deviation, then clicking the pencil button in the top right of the Edit page and selecting "Change main file". Hope that helps! :)

Well I tried that before but it didn't work. Maybe I'll try it again.
