  • Some deviations were located in an outdated category, and consequently were not appearing in Browse. These deviations have been moved to current categories. Fixed by iconocrash

  • When uploading a file to a stack, that stack would always move to the top of one's Sta.sh, even if it had been deliberately moved elsewhere. Fixed by drommk
  • When hovering over an item, using ctrl+click (command+click for Mac) on the "View" hovercard button did not open the item in a new tab. Fixed by kemayo

DeviantArt muro
  • After clicking "Done" on a drawing, deviants can now choose to view the file in Sta.sh, or go directly to the Submit page. Changed by mudimba
  • The Crop tool had a bug that could make brushes work incorrectly after the image was cropped. Fixed by mudimba

Your Feedback

Thank you for the feedback on last week's Site Update
  • Feedback regarding the addition of Google Analytics was generally positive, although some deviants voiced concerns about it being a mandatory addition. To clarify, adding Google Analytics to your Profile Page is an optional feature, a method for deviants to view in-depth stats that are not already provided on deviantART, should they so choose.
  • Deviants were positive about the additional brushes in DeviantArt muro as well as the addition of SoundCloud embedding.
  • Some deviants would like to be able to create or implement custom brushes in deviantART muro. Suggested by Panhead13

Discussion Topic:
Hooboy. It's a lot and all over the place. OK, here goes ^^;
  • for pixel art: MSPaint
  • for traditional art: it really depends on what "look" I want the finished piece to have... colored pencils (Stabilo Softcolor) + liner pens (Staedtler and Sakura), acrylics (Liquitex most of the time), watercolors (a bunch of different brands)
  • for digital art: Gimp and Wacom Graphire 4 tablet
  • for sculpture: Super Sculpey or just plain Sculpey. I like Sculpey much better than Fimo.
  • photography: Panasonic LUMIX

I just ... do a whole bunch of different stuff >.>

Like Emily-Young said, a search feature in the favorites would be great! One in group galleries would be awesome as well :iconloveloveplz:

you would have to hit the link named "reply" in "____ posted a reply on ___"

then click the link named "parent" at the top.
if that's what you meant, I might have misunderstood your statement //shot

YES!!! A search box in peoples favorites would be nice! And...Well...Just make DA easier like it used to be! I've even noticed that recently you guys charge us to use all features on our DA groups now! We already pay for our subs to be on here and unlock all the extra features of DA...Now we have to pay extra to run a group that's already ON DA??? That to me makes no sense! The clubs didn't use to be like that. Used to, all features you could use on the club...Now it's changed. If you want to really make DA an awesome place, then make things more simple like they used to be, and give us PAYING DEVIANTS back ALL of our club features!

Well, I don't really use dA muro, but yes, I think customizing your own brushes would better it. Please inform me if you updated it already; I'm quite interested at the idea. Bear Emoji-08 (Rolling Love) [V1]

As a writer, rather than a graphic artist, I simply use my trusty keyboard. Now, if only it could read my mind to prevent typos. I don't use Sta.sh, except where given no choice, which choice I wish I had.

There is an old-ish ongoing issue with the failure of my story stats to include the KB's in each one, but it's the-o-r-e-t-ically being fixed. I'll believe it when I actually see the fix registering the changes in my tales, especially the ones I'm still writing.

Obviously those who don't want GA on their page wouldn't add the widget. Some of us are concerned about tracking while vising those who have it on their pages. Can we opt out of that (via the anonymous feature) or is that mandatory for us since we are logged in?

+1 for giving people the ability to opt out from being tracked while on others' pages

(Btw, currently, you can't opt out of it via the anonymous feature. You'll get tracked whether you're logged in or not.)

That is true. I use NoScript & DoNotTrack to help with that some.

My other concern with all this tracking being openly available is the potential for harassment/stalkers. There's a lot of kids/teens on dA & it just seems dangerous to allow such info to be so freely available to bullies & stalkers. I really wonder if the dA staff looked at the long term implications of such an open 'feature'. :(

My favourite "tool" is natural clay, maybe, or even ink and nib (G-pen) for traditional inking, albeit I seldom do it these days...

I like trying to figure out how to make presentable images on my own using whatever software I have available but my skills are rather lacking there and I find i work best using traditional medium.(not having a drawing tablet is also probably part of my problem)
i'd have to say water color pencils are my favorite- I love the effects that water color has but I can do my best coloring using colored pencils so water color pencils is the perfect combination for me. My second favorite I guess would just be graphite pencils simply since thats what i have the most practice in and I use what i learn with that in my coloring.

Hello out there to all. You know what I used to dislike about Valentine's Day , Girls at school would get flowers or candy sent to them at school. they would rub it in that they were special enough to get flowers and others were not.Someone told me the other day that she wished someone would send her something to school, well I just might send her some flowers. it might make her feel special. But I will not put my name on the card, Make all the other girls wounder who the secret admirer is.Did it ever bother any one one else that they never got flowers or candy sent to them at school?

Yess it did bother me cuz i saw the other girls get flowers and candy and I didnt until 11 grade that someone did but it was a serenata (people singing to me) but it was just to make fun of me and how do I know welk the guy admit it infront of his friends and me and he said that he used another friends name so i would think that he really liked me.

I agree with you. Valentines day should be a reminder of the many forms of love, not about gifts. Sometimes I just enjoy doing something with my husband and daughter rather than getting something or going somewhere.

When I doodle, I mainly use pens. Sometimes pencils, but most of them time I use pens.
And when I take pictures, I use my Nikon Coolpix L810.

"creation" tools: Camera's: Nikon D800, Nikon D7000, Sony NEX-5.
Lightroom and Photoshop Elements. Why Elements? Because I only edit a picture when I need to and even then, not to much.
Studio flashes from Jinbei. SB 600 as a wireless strobe.

I could take up the challenge to download Ubuntu, The Gimp and one or two RAW editing programs just to spice things up. But to tell the truth, the tutorial folder for that program is a mess. More often then not, I'll find stupid ordinary pictures of celebs or something else. FIX please. Get someone on there?

As for the rest, thanks for the update. :)

Several points on these Site updates:

Good idea to include various topics, it is the only reason I read it.

In replying there are 3 streams of comments below: Artists tools; valentine's day; and site fixes. Can these streams be separated out in future?

Artists tools: I use Faber-Castell pens on watercolour paper for my celtic drawings. I also use pencils on paper. I love working in oil pastels, though I have been concentrating on celtic stuff recently. I bought a set of acrylics before Christmas but I haven't opened the box yet!! I use photshop CS4 for editing photos but I don't do much artwork in it. I am about to download a graphics package for my touch tablet and may try my hand at producing something with that.

Valentine's Day: Too slushy for me! However, I have to admit buying and making cards from time-to-time.

Site fixes: Hey, I have nothad any issues - thanks DeviantArt :-)

For the creation tools: I use a custom marker brush in SAI a lot and I think it's my favorite :3 Because it's softer and the strokes aren't always "hard", so it gives a nice flow with the drawings I make~

I use GIMP when drawing. I completely use the mouse, no tablet here. I'm okay with it. I love using the smudge tool and the "sparks" brush.

I just looked at some of you drawings and i think they're pretty good for not using a tablet. I don't use one myself when making digital drawings but thats mostly due to the fact that I dont have one and probably wont anytime soon. I'm okay with not using one at the moment but there are times when it gets frustrating and i really wish i did have one.

i find using the mouse pad to be easier than using a regular mouse. I have more control.
