Text Brush in deviantART muro

Tue Nov 20, 2012, 7:03 PM
We just launched a new tool to Beta Testers that allows you to paint words onto your canvas in deviantART muro!

The text brush lets you create visual art using words. You can change the text and font from the bottom bar, and you can also set whether or not the text repeats itself continuously. When you click the font button, you'll be prompted with a modal that contains an extensive list of fonts to choose from! The sample text will update based on the font you select, so you can get a sense of what you'll be painting before you paint it.

As an example of the great things you can create with this tool, you can check out mudimba's I Have A Dream, or watch a redraw of mudimba at work creating art!

Try it out!

To give the new text brush a try, head over to deviantART muro! Bugs and issues can be filed in the #devBUG Issue Tracker under the Text Brush project.

Um...I mean, there's now an incredibly useful tool to add text in Muro, which I could only do in MS Paint before. And like other people said, it's nice to use for text-based imagery.

I found it irritating that when i finished my muro artwork, I was not able to sell it as a print, not only that though, you could not choose an image size in which you could zoom into or if you wanted to copy the image and upload as a new artwork the size would be too small unless i adjusted it on photoshop, but if you did that the quality would decrease which would be too bad quality for a print to be made out of.

I love this new feature. Now I don't have to worry about my terrible scribbling when I use muro! ^^;

It seems to work well. I like the "Continuous" feature. I was a little distressed at the fact that the text brush was very sensitive to movement, but then was relieved to see that the SHIFT key would keep it steady. Some of our less MS-Paint experienced users may like to know that you can do this. :giggle:

I would suggest a text brush sensitivity adjuster. Higher sensitivity for drawings made out of words, and lower sensitivity for sentences you'd like to add to your piece. :aww:

I can't wait until this is made available to non-beta testers, I'm not particularly fond of exporting my drawings to paint so no one has to suffer through my awful handwriting.

It seems to be a very useful tool ^^. Unfortunately I can not do the test :(

Other than that, I have a question. Is it possible to make Commissions with our creations on dAMuro?. Usually, many users take commissions with their works of art made with digital drawing programs. And wanted to know if you could also do with drawings on dAMuro, and if on dA there are no rules prohibiting it.

Thanks :)

Sure, I don't see why not. :D

It's a real nice brush - great concept. Any thoughts to having custom/personal fonts in the muro font brush? Or perhaps take suggestions for adding fonts to the list?

I agree with LlamasWithKatanas on this. I don't do much drawing with the dA muro, but to those out there on dA who really enjoy making a quick art for someone or just to do some doodling, then this is the tool for them to add text. I also like the effect on the text drawing tool, drawing text in any direction to whom who wishes. All in all, great tool!

I tried it out. It's an.. OKAY feature. I MEAN. Me PERSONALLY? I don't have any use for it >w< BUT I know there are people out there who are finding this to be an excellent and worthwhile addition to muro. So right on c:
