The New Submit Art Page

Tue Oct 2, 2012, 6:21 PM
Important notice: This particular feature is being A/B tested -- meaning that we're comparing the effectiveness of two different versions of the feature.  If you're a Beta Tester, there's a 50% chance you'll either see the new or old version of the Submit Art page.  This is expected behavior and there's no way to switch between the two groups.

Hello everyone!

Today, we're bringing you a complete revamp of the Submit Art page! While the Submit Art page you're familiar with has been a long-standing part of deviantART, the new Submit Art page is designed to be more intuitive, user-friendly, and up to date with deviantART as it is today.

What's New

  • You now have several options for uploading your art! You can upload a file from your computer, select a file from your Sta.sh, or create a text document, all from the Submit page. Once a file has been uploaded, selected, or created, the Submit page will change to reflect that the submission process is in progress.

  • You can now save and exit at any point in the submission process! If you choose to save and exit, your file and any settings you've chosen will be saved to your Sta.sh, so that you can pick back up with your submission when you're ready.
  • Correctly labeling deviations as Mature Content has a positive impact on our community. Since Mature Content is a point of contention for artists and art appreciators alike, we have made it more prominent in the submission process, to ensure that the browsing experience is a good one for everyone.
  • Since selecting a category is required for submission, we have expanded the entire category selector so that you can quickly and easily select a category for your work. In addition, once you select the category you want your deviation to go into, the selector will show you a few examples from that category!

  • To consolidate and speed up the submission process, we've collapsed optional features that are less frequently customized. These can be found under the Publishing Options menu.

In addition to all of these updates, the new Submit page makes submitting Premium Content quick and simple! If you'd like to sell your digital content as Premium Content, you can check the Premium Content box in the right column of the Submit page. The "Submit Now" button will change to read "Continue," and a box will appear that says "Step 1 of 2" to reflect the fact that there is now a second step in the submission process. On the next page, you can add the content you want to sell, set your seller agreement and price for download, and then your submission will be ready to go!

Try it out!

Give the new Submit page a try! As always, the Submit page can be reached by clicking on the Submit menu in the top bar of the site.

If you come across any problems, let us know by filing a ticket in the devBUG Issue Tracker under the New Submit project.

This page is being a serious problem for me. I'm trying to submit art for once and the category selector won't even show up when I click on it so I can't submit anything. Help!! I've never had this problem before! The buttons for category and the thing below it are both lighter in color (like it's not an option for me or something) and it simply doesn't work properly. I've tried repeated times to submit my work and it just won't let me.

Hey I'm trying to change a main file for one of my deviations, but when I select the file I want to replace it with, it's just a never-ending loading page.

This new submission system rarely works for me. The screen shows up for a split second, then blanks out, and doesn't give me any more options.  I have to refresh and refresh over and over and it's about a 1/30 chance that it'll actually work. Please fix this broken freaking submission junk. Pretty tired of getting done a piece I'm proud of only to be blocked from submitting it when I'm finished.

When I try to submit something the options appear for a second and then disappear again. No mater how many times I try, the options keep disappearing and is preventing me from submitting any art. I have been having this problem for a few days now and I would really appreciate some help :/

The page shows up briefly, but then goes blank. I can't upload my art at all.

Two years later and this system still does not work corectly. Not only Is it still, not compatible with older OS's but I can't figure out how to replace an existing file on a deviation with a newer one on either one of my TWO computers running different OS's. Now I remember why I started using Tumblr.

Not that I'll get a response to this complaint considering that my last two from over a year ago were ignored as well. Off to Tumblr.

Hi there! You can replace an existing file by editing the deviation, clicking the pencil button in the top right corner, and selecting "Change main file". What other issues are you running into, outside of older operating systems not being supported?

I know HOW to do it, It would not LET ME do it because it was malfuctioning, which seems to be the norm every time I log in.

Even on my Chromebook, which updates its OS to the most up to date version EVERY time you log on, I could not get the "change Main file " button to appear. It took me over an hour of refreshing and googling the issue to see if there was a way to fix the problem, Since The FAQ section does not even mention how to change the file when it is working, to finally get it to show up so I could click it.  If it isn't one thing its another. I hardly use this site anymore and only visit to answer messages in my inbox and at least try to upload something new once in a while. If you look at my stats you'll notice I only uploaded 5 deviations last year because I have been avoiding doing so in hopes that the Submission process would be upgraded again to something that works. It has not and as such, it still takes me an hour to upload a single piece of art. I'm sure others have fled as well and I definitely will not be purchasing another premium membership. I also will be seriously considering transferring my work To Tumblr, which is much more user friendly and seems to actually consider what their users want. I think the comments from others on this particular entry is proof enough. Four of which are my own (and only two ever received a reply.)
